What to Expect During a Professional Mobile Detail on Oahu

Never had a professional mobile detail before? Here is exactly what happens from the moment we arrive to the final walk-around, so you know what to expect.

If you have never booked a professional mobile detail before, it is natural to wonder what the process actually looks like. How long does it take? What do we need from you? What happens to your car? Here is a straightforward walkthrough of what to expect when you book with 808 Auto Detail.

Before We Arrive

After you book your appointment online or by phone, we will confirm your date, time, location, and service package. We come to you — your home driveway, office parking lot, or any location on Oahu where we can access your vehicle and a water spigot.

Before your appointment, all we ask is that you remove personal valuables and any large items from your car. Everything else — trash, floor mats, cup holders full of change — we will handle.

Step 1: Vehicle Assessment

When we arrive, we start with a walk-around inspection of your vehicle. We note the overall condition, any areas of concern (heavy dirt buildup, stains, water spots, damaged trim), and point out any pre-existing damage like chips or scratches so there are no surprises. This is also when we will discuss whether any add-on services make sense for your car's current condition.

Step 2: Interior Deep Clean

We typically start with the interior so it can air out while we work on the exterior. Here is what happens inside your car:

  • Full vacuum — Seats, carpets, floor mats, trunk, crevices, and between seat cushions
  • Surface wipe-down — Dashboard, center console, door panels, steering wheel, and all touchpoints
  • Glass cleaning — All interior windows and mirrors for streak-free clarity
  • Door jamb cleaning — The areas around your door hinges where dirt and grime build up
  • Air freshener application — A clean, subtle scent to finish

If you have the Ultimate Detail, this step also includes full seat and dashboard conditioning — we treat leather, vinyl, and plastic surfaces with a UV-protective conditioner that prevents cracking and fading.

If you added the Carpet & Upholstery Shampoo, we will also extract and deep-clean your fabric seats, carpet, and floor mats using hot water extraction. For beach-goers, the Sand & Pet Dander Treatment uses compressed air and specialized vacuuming to get sand out of places you did not even know it was hiding.

Step 3: Exterior Wash and Decontamination

This is where the difference between a mobile detail and a car wash really shows. Our exterior process includes:

  • Pre-rinse — Loosening and flushing surface dirt before anything touches the paint
  • Foam bath — A thick layer of pH-balanced foam that encapsulates and lifts contaminants safely
  • Hand wash — Using a clean microfiber wash mitt with the two-bucket method to prevent swirl marks
  • Wheel and tire cleaning — Brake dust, road grime, and dirt removed from wheels, tires, and wheel wells
  • Clay bar treatment — A clay bar glides across your paint to pull out bonded contaminants like salt crystals, industrial fallout, and tree sap. This step is what makes your paint feel glass-smooth afterward
  • Rinse and dry — A final rinse followed by hand-drying with plush microfiber towels to prevent water spots

Step 4: Protection and Finishing

Once the car is clean and decontaminated, we apply protection:

  • Premium Detail: Exterior conditioning and spray-on wax sealant for immediate shine and 2 to 4 weeks of protection
  • Ultimate Detail: Professional-grade bonded sealant applied with a buffer for deep gloss and 6 to 8 weeks of protection
  • Tire dressing for a clean, finished look on your sidewalls

Step 5: Final Walk-Around

When everything is done, we do a final walk-around with you (if you are available) to make sure everything looks right. We point out any areas we treated, discuss anything we noticed about your car's condition, and answer any questions about maintenance between details.

How Long Does It Take?

A Premium Detail typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your vehicle's size and condition. The Ultimate Detail takes 2 to 3 hours due to the buffing and conditioning steps. Add-on services add 30 to 60 minutes each. You are free to go about your day — many customers schedule their detail during work hours and come out to a transformed car at the end of the day.
